What's in a Name?

They say names are important part of our identity and so it is worthy to know their meanings.

Well, I never bothered to look for the meaning of mine because in a crowd of 10 girls, there are probably 1 or 2 with the name, Karen. Mine is Karen Rose, some variations maybe Karen Joyce, Karen Ann, Karen whatever...all the same. I thought it to be the most common name on earth (well beside from Ana and Maria, of course). There is even a time when I hated that fastfood commercial, 'paboritong apo ni lolo.' Those with the same name as mine I'm sure has undergone the same dilema during that time. It is when you will introduce yourself to someone and that someone, (specially when girl) will answer, 'mine is Gina.' And of course you will believe her, then comes the reply, 'Joke lang.' Basically, all people that you'll meet (sometimes even boys), will introduce themselves to you as Gina. The worst is that I never get used to it and is still getting spoofed by people until now (Move on! The commercial is long gone).
i
BUT, even though my name is the most common name in the universe. I still want you to address me K-A-R-E-N. Don't attempt to give my name a nickname -especially when we're
N O T C L O S E. Got it? Do not call me:
  • KARS or TUBS (my surname)- How I hate it when people call me this! I mean, we're not thisclose so drop it because it sounds cheap. I can't just grasp the point of putting an S in the end of one's name. Will it sounds cute if you do that? Hell, no! Or if you want to call me by my surname then it's T-U-B-A-Y. It's only ONE syllable away. Puhleeeeeeeez, go for the extra 'REN' or 'BAY,' yes?
  • KÂ or REN - Same goes here. Are you that lazy to go for an extra syllable?
  • K - Seriously, how shorter can my name get?
  • RENREN/NERAK/KREN - These can really get into my nerves. What is wrong with people?!

MY POINT IS, unless unless I have given you some sort of a go signal to call me something else, I am KAREN or KAREN ROSE to you. TUBAY if you're feeling astig or KEN if you’re feeling cute. Okay?

SO, let's go back to name meanings. I decided to look up for mine and found out that Karen means 'Pure' (*wink*). Not bad, eh?
l
I also look for the name meanings of my family's and some friends.'
